Q: What are your service hours? / When can I have services?
A: Advantage Home Care Services are available with a minimum of 3 hours per day once a week to 24 hour care seven days a week. A free in-home Client Care Assessment with the person needing care is required before care begins. It usually takes several days for care to begin but we can respond more quickly if necessary.
Q: Do you provide services to seniors at independent living communities, assisted living facilities and rehab facilities?
A: Yes, In addition to working in private homes or apartments we provide supplemental care in all types of senior living communities.
Q: How can we be sure that we will get a caregiver we like and trust?
A: Our promise is that your loved one will be safe and well cared for. All of our caregivers are bonded and insured. In addition each caregiver must pass a criminal background check, a financial background check, a drug test and have a clean driving record before we hire them. Before starting services, a supervisor will visit with the client and family during a Client Care Assessment. This assessment will give us a better understanding of your loved one’s individual needs, their medical condition and desired schedule. Based on that information, we will identify caregiver(s) that will be a good fit for your loved one. Every effort is made to make a good match and rarely do we have to change caregivers. However if at any time you want a different caregiver, you can call our office and we will work with you to identify an alternative caregiver who will satisfy your needs.
Q: How do I know that he/she has the skills needed for the assignment?
A: We hire experienced caregivers and provide them with ongoing training courses and seminars to ensure that they have the knowledge they need to provide high quality care. Many have CNA (Certified Nursing Assistants) or PSS (Personal Support Specialist) credentials.
Q: What makes Advantage Home Care different from other agencies in Southern Maine?
A: We are not a franchise company, we are owner owned and operated by a Maine native and strive to improve a senior’s quality of life. It is our primary goal to provide high quality care for our clients. Their health, safety, comfort, and overall well-being is what matters. We truly want our clients to age gracefully in their home.
Q: What if I am going on vacation or need to cancel a shift?
A: Planning a get-away? Good for you! With advance notice, we will try to accommodate any scheduling need your loved one may have including overnight care and 24 hour care. We want you to feel comfortable leaving care in our hands, leaving you worry free. We can work with you in daily communication via email, phone, and our staff will write in daily journal logs.
Should you need to cancel a shift, we require a 24 hour notice of cancellation except in the case of illness, where no notice is required.
Q: How do I pay for services? Do I pay the caregiver directly?
A: The client or family is billed directly for our services every two weeks. Clients do not pay the caregiver directly. We are a VA approved provider and if you qualify for VA benefits we are paid directly by the VA in some cases, depending on the rules of the program you are receiving benefits under. We also work with most long term care insurance companies to help you get reimbursed for care services under the terms of your policy. We require a refundable service deposit for the first two weeks of care upon signing of our service agreement. The deposit is returned when care ends or it can be used to pay the final invoice for care. Most people pay by check but we offer an option to use Intuit QuickBooks Payments to make payments directly from your bank account.
